Conservation Training

Ruth has run several successful training courses for heritage sector staff and volunteers, including several for the Sussex Museums Group. Ruth has also taught the 'Adhesives for Conservation' and 'Iron Gall Ink Treatment' modules for the Book and Library Materials Conservation course at West Dean College, West Sussex. Ian has also taught at West Dean College as a Course Tutor on the Books and Library Materials Conservation, MA course.

We have developed a practical 5 day course, 'Understanding Book Structures for Conservation'. This is designed to give delegates a sound practical basis to the basic skills involved in binding as well as the more advanced knowledge required to understand historical books and library materials and their manufacture. It is aimed at people who want to gain valuable practical and theoretical experience before studying Book and Paper Conservation in more depth at a registered college or to help understand the context of damage in libaries and collections.

One-to-one training for conservation students at the studio is available on request. We are also now offering conservation student placements in the studio during the summer. Please contact us for more details.
